August 11, 2012 by Blake Ellis

For some ecommerce companies, the impending holiday season can feel more like a foreign invasion than a golden sales opportunity.

Between the frantic buyers, the fear of site crashes and the incessant call for free shipping (not to mention the threat of blizzards and ice storms), even the most committed seasonal seller might be tempted to stay in bed and pull up the covers.

But just a few timely tips can help turn this year’s holiday push into a long, delightful sleigh ride (or at least a short, exciting trip on a Flexible Flyer)…

The 2012 Multichannel Merchant Awards are Afoot!

August 2, 2012 by KWOxnard
This year’s MCM Awards are underway, and we encourage all of you to apply.
The awards focus on a case study of a particular cross-channel (catalog, email, social media, sweepstakes/giveaways, etc.) campaign that you undertook this past year–e.g. which channels you used, how effective they were and especially, how they helped your sales. As you get ready for the holiday selling season, we know your plate is pretty full right now.  But awards like this can be extremely helpful for many reasons.
First, you get noticed by the editors of Multichannel Merchant, the premier online and print publication for eCommerce retailers just like you. Second, it’s a great opportunity for you to take stock of your online marketing efforts to see what’s working (and what’s not).  Third, if you win, or even if you come close, the free publicity you’ll receive would be priceless–literally!  Free media is where it’s at when it comes to PR, so it can’t hurt to send in an entry.
If you need any help from us crafting your application, please let us know.  And of course, if you’d like to mention how CommerceV3 and CV3 Timberline are enhancing your multichannel approach, that would be lovely! Here’s what MCM vis a vis regarding your application: “Your entry should be a case study (PDF preferred) that documents what steps you took to make your campaign cross-channel. It does not need to include revenues generated as a result of the campaign, but should let the MCM Awards judges know what the goal of the campaign was, and how multiple channels were used in conjunction to successfully reach that goal.”Here are the categories in which you can enter:

The MCM Awards 2012 will be broken down into 6 new categories, allowing for Gold, Silver and Bronze winners:
  • B-to-C Smaller-Size Company (with an annual revenue range of $0 to $10 million

  • B-to-C Mid-Size Company (with an annual revenue of $10 million to $75 million)

  • B-to-C Large-Size Company (with an annual revenue of $70 million or above)

  • B-to-B Smaller-Size Company (with an annual revenue range of $0 to $10 million)

  • B-to-B Mid-Size Company (with an annual revenue of $10 million to $75 million)

  • B-to-B Large-Size Company (with an annual revenue of $75 million or above)

How to Prepare Your Site for Google Shopping; published in Multichannel Merchant

July 11, 2012 by Andy Dunn

Like it or not, Google owns the online search game. So when they announced the launch of a new pay to play model to replace their current free Google Product Search, it sent shockwaves through the ecommerce industry. Alas, the free ride is over, with gratis listings in the Google shopping portion of search results ending soon. Instead, you will have to pay Google to appear in Google Shopping. No more free clicks…

Template Publishing: Pushing Faster to Live Web Nodes

February 24, 2012 by Blake Ellis

As the number of servers running at CV3 has grown, it’s grown harder and harder to push out new information to all of them. This was already becoming an issue in our old data center, and now that we are in cloud we have even more servers that need that information. We’ve already moved from a “push system” to a “pull” system, so that each web server in the cluster pulls it’s own updates from a central repository. This is a more reliable and scalable architecture, but it’s slow and there have been times when the number of changes has overloaded the system. Right now we have scripts that look for updates and “sweep” them in to the central repository.

We are currently working on implementing a queue for updates, so that when you publish a template it lines up to go into the central repository. This is a much faster and more reliable way to process them because it expects at all times to be overloaded so it works just fine whether busy or not. Once in the repository, changes are then pulled to each web node when it checks for updates.

This whole process will first and foremost give us a maximum “time to publish” so that you know when to expect your update to be completed, even if the system is busy and even if your browser happens to be refreshing a page on a web node that updated right before your change went in and has to wait a full cycle to pull your update. Right now our goal is to keep that “worst case” time under ten minutes. Once that timing is reliable and never missed, we can monitor the process for ways to make it even faster.

Please note that all of this refers only to the process of publishing changes from Staging to Live. When you click save while working on a template, your changes can be previewed immediately in your staging area with no delay.

Make Good Use of Filters

February 18, 2012 by Christina Focht
Good Day to You All!
A little story about filters…
I know you all have people in your life whom you wish you could ignore, or at least limit their access to specific parts of your life. Wouldn’t it be nice to have filters (or little drop-down menus) for these folks–or even entire groups of people–in your life?
Please select your setting from the following drop-down before contacting me:
Based on your selection above, you now have access to certain parts of my life, and more importantly, one of my MANY different moods! For example, an “Ex Spouse/Partner” would see “NO further options available” or “Ship to Zimbabwe Overnight Express,”…
… while the “Cute Person We Saw Today” might be offered “Dinner tonight?” or “Priority Shipping – Handle with Care.”
Yes, life would be much easier and less annoying with a little filtering available! At least we can take comfort in knowing that CV3 is making life smoother for you and your clients through the “Filter Available Shipping Methods” feature and the “Filter Available Shipping Methods by State” feature. Based on your customer’s selections, the checkout page will only display the shipping methods available to their region/selections. What could be sweeter (other than meeting that cute person I saw today, of course)?
Contact Support today for more information on these cool features!
And if you haven’t signed up yet for this year’s CV3 User Conference in Orlando, Florida, you can check out all of our exciting speakers and sessions here.  Hope to see you all in March 18-20–spouses, partners and significant others welcome too!
Have a great week, everyone!
Cheers,Christina Focht
